It’s 2017, You Haven’t Done A Thing Yet

It’s 2017 and you haven’t done a thing yet. What are you waiting on? A lot of people find themselves a couple of days into the new year and you’re still stuck in your previous ways. Lets try to pinpoint what’s exactly holding you  back and make a move to get you in the right direction:

  1. You’re not sure what changes you really want to make.
    • If you don’t know where you want to go, how will you get there? Take a moment to decide if you really want to make real life changes, or if your just following the phrase, ” New Year New Me.”

  2. You’re uninspired.
    • Take a small vacation, clear your mind.
    • How can you make a change when your vision is blurry? You may need a quick change of scenery to get those creative juices flowing.
    • Inspiration is everywhere, you just have to be open and look.
  3. You’re afraid.
    • It’s ok to be afraid of change.
    • Take a deep breath and actually understand how better your life will be once you take that first step to fulfilling your life goals. Yes, it may make you uncomfortable, but growth can not occur without hard work and sacrifice.
    • Sometimes being afraid is the fuel you need to face your fears and starting moving towards your new life.
  4. You don’t have a stong support system.
    • It’s ok to not have any support from family or friends, its your dream.
    • You have to dig deep with in yourself and support your own changes in life.
    • Gather the strength you used to come up with the changes and believe you are enough to make sure you have control over your own life and goals. It will be happynewyear2017achieved if you work hard and believe.
  5. You have set an unrealistic goal for yourself.
    • Come down a notch if  you have to with your changes, nothing happens over night.
    • You want to make sure if the goal is big, you  have little goals as well to paint the big picture in the end.
    • I want you to be human and feel accomplished when you complete a task, so take it a little easy on yourself, you’ll get there.

What Does Your Body Language Say About You?

peaceWhat does your body language say about you? It’s apart of who we are, it’s what we do without even thinking. “Body language is a kind of nonverbal communication, where thoughts, intentions, or feelings are expressed by physical behaviors, such as facial expressions, body posture, gestures, eye movement, touch and the use of space.”  The common phrase i’m sure we have all heard, ” It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.” This is a legit factor of life that can really be a great part of you, or your downfall. We all need to be more aware of how we take in information and express emotion. You can master your body language and get control over this department of unspoken emotion. Lets break down this non-verbal communication and analyze the components in detail.

Anger– Occurs when expectations are not met or goals are not obtained.

  • Neck/Face flushed red
  • Threats
    • Eye gazing for long periods of time or frowning of the face
    • Clenched fist or squints

Fear/Anxiety/Nervousness – Occurs when basic needs are compromised or challenged.

  • Fidgeting
  • Not making eye contact
  • Errors in speech
  • Sweating
  • Tension in muscles

Sadness- Occurs when the opposite of happy is presented, usually a sudden depressive state.

  • Looking down or away from others
  • Drooping of the body

Embarrassment- Occurs from transgression of values or personal guilt.

  • False smiling or grimacing
  • Flushed cheeks

Surprised -Occurs when the unexpected is presented.

  • Raised eyebrows
  • Widened Eyes
  • Open mouth

Happiness- Occurs when goals are achieved or needs are fulfilled.

  • Smiling
  • Open hands and arms
  • Smiling of the eyes

So now that we have an idea of whats going on with our gestures, let’s make a conscious decision to be more aware of our non verbal communication. Everyone has to start somewhere, this step doesn’t require words, just effort.

Why Is It So Hard To Spring Forward?

ClockWe all love the extra hour of daylight, but why is it so hard to spring forward? Hopoffthis.Com wants to give some great insight on how intense this time change can be on the body and mind.  Do we even know what daylight savings time is? Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time, “is the practice of advancing clocks during the lighter months so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in the autumn.”

According to The Huffington Post, “It’s easier to delay,” explains Dr. Muhammad Hamadeh, M.D., the medical director of the sleep disorders center at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago. “If you go to sleep at 10 p.m., you can stay up another hour and sleep at 11 p.m. But asking you to go to sleep earlier is harder, like falling asleep at 9 p.m. instead of 10 p.m.”

“The disruption to the body’s natural rhythms can be felt for days, particularly when there’s more morning darkness immediately after the start of Daylight Saving Time.Light is the primary time cue for our natural clock. When light changes, that goes out of sync with our internal clock. Hamadeh says secretion of several hormones in the early morning or early evening — like the sleep-promoting hormone melatonin — can quickly become out of sync during Daylight Saving changes.”

So with that being said, make sure the extra hour of daylight doesn’t give room for procrastination.Eat healthy and get a good nights rest through spring summer, it really does take a toll on your body. DST only last from Sunday March 9th to Sunday November 2nd so make sure you enjoy it!
